Happy Faces and Other Memories of Paraguay
Rural Paraguay is where you truly understand how different this county is from the United States. These images show a small colony outside of Tobati. We visited a rural school and a master potter while in this town. We also got to experience some of the local means of transportation.

Oxcarts are common in Paraguay. We all rode an oxcart about a half mile up to the potters house.

This is a country bus. Notice the decorative balls on the front bumper. This bus brought us from Tobati to the village. It was a bit temperamental when it came to shifting gears, but we made it there and back.

This is a typical road in rural Paraguay. We were here at a very dry time. Can you imagine what the rainy season brings?

As our group traversed a steep incline in a bumpy ox drawn cart, we encountered this little band, 2 drums and 2 wooden flutes which serenaded us with lilting music.

Other Memories

Posing with the honor guard at the Palace of the Heroes.

When Anna Rose was a tiny baby she visited the Palace of the Heroes and while we were there, she began to cry very loudly. The captain of the guard held her and she quieted down. Anna has always loved the picture of her being held and cooed to by the captain. We asked the current officer if he would be willing to pose with Anna, and he was delighted. She was in a much better mood this time.
