2006 Raffle Quilt
Making a quilt of this size and complexity requires many hands. The Evergreen Quilters spent countless hours cutting the fabric, piecing the blocks and hand quilting. Here are some of the " quilting bees" we convened over a period of about 8 months.
| Kathie Simon Frank cuts fabric for one of the many blocks that make up the quilt. | |
| Carol Dixon trims a block to the proper size in preparation for assembling the quilt components. | |
| Martha Eaves sews some of the many pieces that create the blocks for the quilt. | |
| Melissa Nellis and Michelle Hill form an assembly line to get the blocks made. | |
| Once most of the blocks are made, it's time to lay them out and see if we can make the snail trail pattern. We start from the edge. | |
| Getting the right blocks in the right place requires a lot of adjustments. We have found that squinting your eyes or taking off your glasses helps you figure out the balance of color and pattern. It also helps to have all the eyes of the Evergreen Quilters. We look, move a block and then by consensus determine if it is in the right place. | |
After two hours, here we are!. See the way the snail trail moves? Unfortunately, we aren't quite ready to sew the blocks together, because we discover we are missing about 20 small blocks. We agree to get together over the weekend to finish all the blocks and try to get the quilt sewn together. |
