Frequently Asked Questions
About the CVC Bead Crochet Starter
I see that you recommend using size 8 beads - can you use other sizes as well? |
Yes! I recommend starting with size 8 beads because it is easier. The CVC Bead Crochet Starter is made using size 8 beads, and using the same size beads will help you match your beginning piece with the beads in the starter. Once you have mastered the technique, you can use any size beads. Just keep in mind, the smaller the bead, the longer it takes you to complete a project. |
Can I make a bead crochet rope with more
than 5 beads around? |
Absolutely! All you need to do is just add an extra bead in your first round of beads that you crochet onto the CVC Bead Crochet Starter. It will look a little lumpy, but not to worry - you will be discarding those beads anyway when you disconnect the starter from your project. |
Can I use different thread for stringing my beads? |
Sure - many people use Pearle Cotton. In addition, you can try Silimide or Nymo for smaller beads. These threads will give you a rope with more drape. I have had great luck with Coates and Clarks Button and Craft thread - it's easy to work with and doesn't stretch. I feel that the polyester and cotton fibers will last for a long time. |
I can't find a "big eye"
needle. Can I use another needle to string my beads? |
You can - I suggest using a long needle, and you need to make sure that the thread goes through the eye of the needle - and that it can accommodate the beads you are using for your project. The "big eye" needle is great because it is basically made from two thin wires, attached to each other at each end, and the entire middle of the needle splits apart so you can thread it. |
